ASP.NET SignalR
In the next imminent update to ASP.Net Microsoft is introducing a brand new technology into the stack. SignalR was started as an open source project by two members of the ASP.Net team but became so popular that it was incorporated into the ASP.Net product. It uses some old and new tricks to enabled real-time server to client push communication. As we'll see this allows us to do some pretty amazing things with a good old fashioned web page or desktop app using just the HTTP protocol.
We'll see how we can build chat applications, multi-player games, live server telemetry and many other types of "live" web sites with very little code. We'll also look at how simple it is to plug in similar functionality in a desktop app.
